FAQ: Placenta Services
-
Placenta services are a personal choice. Some families feel deeply drawn to this practice, while others do not — both are valid. I am here to offer information, care, and support so you can decide what feels aligned for you and your postpartum journey.
What if I’m unsure which placenta services I want?
It’s completely okay to be unsure. I’m happy to walk you through each option — encapsulation, tincture, broth, keepsakes, or art — and help you choose what feels right for you. There is no pressure, only gentle guidance.

Yes. Many families choose to combine services, such as encapsulation with a tincture, broth, or keepsake. We can create a plan that honors your wishes and supports your postpartum needs.

All birth experiences are honored here. Whether your birth unfolds as expected or takes an unexpected turn, placenta services may still be offered when appropriate. Each situation is met with compassion, flexibility, and care.
If, for any reason, the placenta is not able to be used, a refund will be issued, with the exception of a $20 processing fee. My priority is always to approach these moments with understanding, respect, and transparency.

Yes, placenta services can often still be used after a cesarean birth, as long as the placenta is released to you by the hospital and is appropriate for preparation. Many families who birth by cesarean choose placenta services as part of their postpartum care.
Planning ahead is especially helpful with cesarean births. We will discuss consent, storage, and hospital procedures in advance so you feel informed and prepared. If the placenta is available and suitable, services proceed as planned. If it is not able to be used, the same refund policy applies, with care and transparency.
All cesarean births are honored here. Whether planned or unplanned, your experience and choices are respected, and I approach each situation with flexibility, compassion, and gentle guidance.

Placenta tinctures are often created for long-term use and can be kept for years. Many families choose to use them during times of emotional or hormonal transition, such as weaning or other life changes, while others keep them as a meaningful keepsake from their birth experience.
When choosing a placenta tincture, I offer a 6-week preparation process, allowing the tincture to fully develop with care and intention. Once complete, we can meet at my office for a gentle check-in, where your tincture is returned as part of a placenta gift package — honoring both the process and your postpartum journey.

Your placenta is treated with deep respect and care at every step of the process. It is prepared solely for you, using hygienic practices, mindful handling, and intentional preparation. This work is never rushed and is carried out with reverence for your body and your birth experience.
When encapsulation is chosen, I use the Traditional Chinese Method (TCM), a practice rooted in centuries of postpartum tradition. In this method, the placenta is gently steamed before dehydration, a process traditionally believed to support warmth, balance, and grounding during the postpartum period. Steaming is an intentional step that honors the placenta as a nourishing element and reflects the TCM philosophy of restoring warmth and harmony to the body after birth.
Every step is completed with care, cleanliness, and respect — honoring both the cultural wisdom behind this method and the sacred role your placenta has played in your journey.

If you are discharged before placenta pickup, you may be asked to bring your placenta home with you. I will provide clear guidance ahead of time on proper storage and transport so you feel prepared and confident. Once you are home, you can notify me, and I will arrange pickup within 24 hours of your request.
-
For birth center births, placenta services are usually very straightforward. Birth centers often release the placenta directly to families. We will discuss plans in advance so you know exactly what to expect, and I will coordinate pickup in a timely and smooth manner.
-
For home births, placenta services are typically the simplest. Your placenta can be safely stored according to the plan we discuss ahead of time, and I will arrange pickup within 24 hours once you are ready. This allows you to remain resting at home while care is handled for you.
